Covid-19 Outbreak – SH&P Response

The global coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) will impact on us all to a certain degree.  SH&P is committed to maintaining the health and welfare of its staff and to minimising any disruption of our services. The UK Government has moved from a state of containment to one of delay.  Its official approach and guidance to individuals and businesses will evolve rapidly over the coming weeks.  SH&P will be following this advice and is also taking its own measures to mitigate the effect of the virus on our staff and clients alike.

Ian Smith

  • Partner

Ian joined SH&P in 1988 from the IP Department of Imperial Tobacco. He was instrumental in setting up the Bristol office of the Firm which has grown to become the focal point of SH&P. Ian qualified in 1992 and became a Partner of the firm in 1996. He now heads up the SH&P Brands and Trade Marks Group.

Over his career, Ian has acquired a wealth of experience in all aspects of brand protection in both the UK and overseas. He has developed particular experience in contentious matters, settlement negotiation, licencing and due diligence on brand acquisition and disposal. Over the years, Ian has fronted the IP team on several multi-billion pound acquisitions.

Although a keen sportsman, Ian now prefers more leisurely pursuits in his spare time. He does suffer for his avid support of one of Bristol’s local football teams, a curse he has managed to pass onto his children (“we can all be happy or gloomy at the same time”). When not at a match, he can be found running around after his children (“does that ever end?”).
