In a strong field of entries, SH&P client Guardian Maritime Limited was recently awarded the prestigious Horners Award for innovation in plastics design and manufacture.  The award, which is given jointly by the British Plastics Federation (BPF) and the Worshipful Company of Horners was awarded to Guardian Maritime Limited for the Guardian™ anti-piracy barrier. Teresa Stevens, the inventor of the Guardian™ anti-piracy barrier, received the award earlier this month in a glittering ceremony at Mansion House.

Securing intellectual property rights

SH&P has worked closely with Teresa and her husband David from the outset to establish and grow a portfolio of intellectual property rights in the Guardian™ anti-piracy barrier.  Inevitably, the rapid success of the Guardian™ anti-piracy barrier has tempted others to copy Teresa’s idea and the IP portfolio has been fundamental in enabling Guardian Maritime to step in quickly to put a stop to those copies.

Sarah Perkins, Partner at SH&P said: “This is a much-deserved award. The Guardian™ anti-piracy barrier is a significant and important invention and is the result of hard work and continuing development. It is a pleasure to work with Teresa and David to ensure that their intellectual and financial investment in this product is properly protected.”
