Sarah now works as an IP consultant with SH&P but previously she was a partner of SH&P for 21 years. She is an experienced Patent Attorney with extensive knowledge of patent prosecution, enforcement and portfolio management and specialises in physics, electronics and computing technologies. She represents clients of all sizes in many different commercial fields and sectors, ranging from private inventors and start-up businesses through to multi-national corporations including telecoms and a well-known computer-gaming company.
She offers assistance in obtaining and defending patent rights and patent strategy, acquisition and enforcement in the UK and overseas. In her role as IP advisor she has assisted companies from their initial start-up through growth and repeated funding rounds to those companies becoming established, successful businesses and has witnessed first-hand the importance of a company’s IP strategy being responsive to changing circumstances. She is regularly involved in Freedom-To Operate investigations and has assisted clients with due diligence exercises pertaining to the acquisition of patent assets. She has also been a patent advisor on a number of patent infringement and validity court actions.
For 10 years Sarah was the department head of SH&P’s electronics and computing patent department involving tailoring the IP services provided by the department to better respond to the differing needs of individual clients. Sarah has also been a director of PAMIA; an insurance mutual that provides professional indemnity insurance to patent and trade mark professionals in the UK. In this latter role Sarah gained a deep understanding of risk management and the demands of operating in a highly regulated environment.
Sarah also takes an active role in external activities to increase public awareness of intellectual property. She has been a speaker at numerous business events and works with charitable organisations that seek to educate and inspire the next generation in relation to relevance of STEM subjects to their futures.
In her spare time she enjoys singing, iron-working and Pilates.
